Our Mission

NEW-HOPE-TBI is dedicated to improving quality of life and health outcomes for patients living with traumatic brain injury, including concussions. We seek to fill critical gaps in the current scientific understanding of the connection between brain injury and Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

Contribute Through Brain Donation

Traumatic brain injury, including concussions,  is often a profoundly life-altering experience. Survivors may experience changes in cognition, physical ability, and emotional regulation. Living with TBI can affect a person’s ability to work, to engage in relationships, and to enjoy everyday activities. These experiences and the expertise of people living with TBI provide critical insights that inform the research at NEW-HOPE-TBI. If you, or someone you love, is a TBI survivor, consider contributing to this research by sharing your experiences and learning more about postmortem brain donation.

Why This Work Matters

  • “My brother, Jonte, was a kind man and a gifted athlete. I want people to understand how quickly your life can change and how much TBI can affect you mentally and physically.”

    — Kathy W.

  • “I am honored to serve on the NEW-HOPE-TBI Community Advisory Board. Improving research and outcomes for people living with TBI is very personal for me as my father Jim battled dementia for many years.”

    — Kris L.

  • “My experience as a former brain injury community re-integration specialist, coupled with my perspective as a mother navigating the challenges of brain injury with a soccer player, provides a deep and multifaceted understanding of the issues we aim to address. I'm eager to contribute to NEW-HOPE-TBI's efforts.”

    — Haleigh C.

  • “I want to bring my perspective as a patient and an advocate to NEW-HOPE-TBI and to be a voice for patient-centered research and consideration of the long-term impacts of mild TBI in this amazing collaborative effort.”

    — Conor G.

  • “One of Matt’s friends distilled it down and said, ‘So someday some little kid’s gonna hurt his head and he’s not going to have to suffer like Matt did.’ That is what we are hopeful for. That’s what we feel is Matt’s legacy. That’s the hope. That’s where the hope lies.”

    — Linda and Bob D.

  • “My experience as a parent advocating for a child who sustained multiple concussions has led to my dedication to improving the lives of all those who have sustained concussions. I’m proud to support the research team’s effort to understand mild TBI, including short and long-term impacts of this all-too-common injury.”

    — Malyka G.

  • “I am so hopeful. It gets me up in the morning. Thinking we’re going to make a difference today. We’re going to understand something. We’re going to make that discovery.”

    — Dr. Dirk Keene, Principle Investigator of NEW-HOPE-TBI
